Released Inmate Mugshots as Records
For Lee County, the official photo trail begins with the Lee County Sheriff's Office. The current inmate search displays images for listed people, and the OCV current-inmate feed exposes small and large image URLs. The Recent Arrests page also displays recent booking entries with photos. Those channels are booking-photo and current/recent booking sources, not a guaranteed archive of every person released from the W.S. "Buck" Jones Detention Center.
A booking photo should be read with the rest of the record. The sheriff feed can show booking date, NameID, age, race, sex, charge description, charge status, bond amount, bond status, and image links. Charge-level labels such as "Released by Court Order" or "Case Dismissed By Courts" may appear beside other charge rows, so the photo and one charge status should not be converted into a full-person release conclusion without the sheriff release record, court case, VINELink, or receiving-agency record.
Where Lee County Booking Photos Appear
Official channels come first. Use third-party mirrors only as secondary categories and verify anything they show against the sheriff, court, ADOC, registry, or public-record response.

Sheriff Roster and Recent Arrests
The Lee County Sheriff's current inmate search is the most direct official photo channel for people still listed in county custody. It should be used to identify a current booking photo and associated booking details, not to prove a past release. After someone leaves the current roster, the photo may no longer be visible in the same way. The Recent Arrests page can preserve booking-photo context for recent bookings, but it is not labeled as a release list and does not confirm that a person has been released.
If a person appears on Recent Arrests but not in the current inmate search, the careful wording is that the person has a recent Lee County booking entry and is not visible in the active-inmate list at the time checked. Confirm release through VINELink, the sheriff's prisoner book, records request, Lee County Circuit Clerk / Alacourt, or any receiving custody system. The related release-window pages are Jail Releases: 24 Hours and Jail Releases: 72 Hours, but the research found no official Lee County 24-hour or 72-hour release-photo feed.
Sheriff Mobile App Access
Lee County also promotes a sheriff mobile app. The Google Play page identifies the Lee County Sheriff's Office app by OCV, LLC, and the App Store identifies the Lee County Sheriff's Office AL app as a free reference app by the Lee County Sheriff's Office. The app-store descriptions mention connecting with the sheriff, anonymous crime reporting, and sex-offender search. They did not confirm a distinct release-photo feed during the research sweep, so the app should be treated as a sheriff access channel rather than a guaranteed mugshot archive.
Use the app alongside the official website, not instead of it. If the app points to sex-offender search, remember that registry information applies only to qualifying registrants. It is not a general released-inmate mugshot database for everyone released from Lee County custody.
Requesting a Booking Photo
When the photo is not online or the person has already been released, the official Lee County route is a sheriff records request. The sheriff's records-request page says requests must use the Lee County Sheriff's Office Public Records Request Form, include proof that the requester is an Alabama resident, and be submitted in person to the Administration Division - Public Records Request at 1900 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL 36801. The page says unsolicited email or other electronic public-record communications will not be acknowledged or answered.
- Identify the record specifically: full name, date of birth if known, approximate booking date, NameID if known, case number if known, and request for the booking photograph tied to that booking record.
- Use the sheriff records-request page at https://www.leecosheriffal.gov/recordsrequest and the linked Public Records Request Form.
- Bring proof of Alabama residency and submit the request in person at the Lee County Sheriff's Office, 1900 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL 36801.
- Expect exemptions to matter. The sheriff policy lists juvenile records, Youthful Offender records, expunged records, open-case material, investigative materials, criminal-history information, and certain identifying information among records that may not be released.
- Account for fees: standard copies are $1.00 for the first page and $0.50 for each additional page, research fees may apply when a request is estimated over one hour, and digital-copy charges may apply.
- Use the stated normal response time as an estimate. The sheriff says it normally responds within 15 business days after receipt and will send extension notice if needed.
ADOC and Registry Photos
ADOC is relevant only when the person is in, or was transferred to, Alabama state-prison custody. ADOC's public inmate search may show state-prison information and photos for currently incarcerated inmates, but ADOC says its database contains currently incarcerated inmates and historical data is not available online. A Lee County state-prison release may require ADOC records, ABPP supervision information, Alabama VNS, or court records after the person leaves ADOC custody.
The Alabama Sex Offender Registry / ALEA Community Information Center and Lee County OffenderWatch are separate from general release mugshots. They matter only for released registrants who must appear in a public registry. ALEA says not every offender is publicly disseminated because of juvenile, Youthful Offender Act, or out-of-state status. Registry photos should not be treated as proof that every released Lee County inmate has a public post-release photo.
Third-Party Mirrors and News
Third-party mugshot or booking-photo sites may appear in search results for Lee County Alabama. They are not official release confirmation sources, and this page does not link or endorse them. They may mirror booking images, keep stale arrest data, miss release or dismissal updates, or fail to reflect expungement, sealing, correction, or court disposition. If a third-party page is the only place a photo is visible, verify the booking, release status, and court outcome through the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Lee County Circuit Clerk, ADOC, ABPP, VINELink, or the registry where applicable.
Local news or sheriff social media can publish arrest or case-specific images. Those are not comprehensive release archives. The Lee County Sheriff's homepage links social platforms, but the research notes that social feeds may require login to display. Treat a news or social image as a case-specific publication, then cite the underlying public agency or court record when the question is custody status, release date, or case disposition.
Removal, Expungement, and Corrections
No current Alabama statewide anti-pay-to-remove mugshot statute was confirmed in the research. Do not assume Alabama has a private-site takedown law comparable to states that have adopted specific pay-to-remove rules. Official routes are different: correct the public record if it is wrong, pursue expungement or sealing through court where eligible, ask the official agency what it can release after an order, or contact a private publisher under that publisher's policies and any law that may apply.
ALEA says Alabama courts grant expungements, not ALEA. Lee County Circuit Clerk provides an Expungement of Records PDF, and the research notes that the form recommends certified copies of arrest, booking, incarceration records, case action summaries, or dispositions where applicable. The sheriff's records policy lists expunged, juvenile, Youthful Offender, grand jury, criminal-history, open-case, and investigative materials among exceptions. A court order may restrict what an official agency can release, but it does not automatically prove that an unrelated private mirror has removed an old image.
